Advanced Training Program

I’ve seen a number of programs out there that will help generate a map for training on, regardless of type, i.e. biking or running.  Some of them are fairly complicated like mapmyrun.com or mapmybike.com, both of which are owned and operated by Under Armor. There are some programs out there that are integrated into the platform as a whole, one of which I am a diehard till the day I die….or at least the Garmin dies, then I’ll just get another one.  The platform to which I am referring is connect.garmin.com

I started with the Garmin Edge 305 back in 2006 the moved on to the Forerunner series.  The most memorable was the Forerunner 305 in 2016.  Then what I am currently using which is the Fenix 6X Pro.  It took a little getting used to the new OS but all in all I like it better than the legacy Forerunner 305.  (I have been eyeing the Fenix 7, fwiw but not committed to it yet.  $$)

The reason I diverged from the discussion from training softwares is give some background on the platform that I prefer, software and hardware wise.  Garmin Connect for the software.  Garmin hardware.  Garmin FTW!

So far I have been able to export a GPX file and run comparisons against one another using a python script/  As a sample race, I have taken the Scout Mountain Ultra 21M and 51K then compared them against one another using gpxy and folium.  The result may be seen above, not bad for a simple script….also keeping in mind that this is a screen capture of a map exported from html.  With that in mind, there are some additional items to tackle, namely adding some waypoints.

My end goal is to be able to take the course and find sections locally that I would be able to run to mimic the course itself.  I would also like to perform the reverse where I can take a run around the neighborhood or other then find a race that is similar.

Note: I do use Amazon Affiliates to make a little $ to support this, that, and the other…mainly just to keep things moving.
