You’ve Gone And Done It

Well…I ran, again.  This time around it didn’t suck as bad as it did the few times before it.  I definitely understand why people give up running after their first few runs, weeks, months, or etc.  This is especially easy to do if you have never had a runner’s high and certainly forgivable.  (More please!)

It’s been a while since I last had a runner’s high, but I do remember what they feel like.  So, for me not having achieved this during these last runs since starting up again has been really hard on me.  It was easier to obtain in the past like the body’s ability to remember the physical sensations that trigger a high in the brain.  I know it is out there and am willing to continue running until I hit that mark.

For those who have not had one, well let’s face it.  If you have not had one and you quit then you sure as hell won’t know to keep trying.  I for one am going to keep trying because the high is great with the real motivator being physically fit.

I remember reading Tim Noakes’ book, Lore of Running a while back.  “Lore of Running gives you incomparable detail on physiology, training, racing, injuries, world-class athletes, and races.”  I was trying to sum it up in my mind on what this book did for me, without writing a book report, but realized that one sentence from Amazon summed it up.

This also got me to thinking about all of the other books that I have read (see below), movies I have watched, or podcasts that I have listened to in the past.  I can directly attribute my reading, watching, and listening to really what inspired and kept me running.  It is also what re-inspired me to run again.

I rewatched The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young and went back down a rabbit hole watching a few other running movies in the next week or so.  Desert Runners is a free video if you are interested in free stuff.  Cliffy is an intense one which deserves a watching as well.

If you like fun in your running, check out Never Wipe Your Ass With A Squirrel…humor at its best without crossing any boundaries and certainly provides a few lessons we should all learn.

(I do get a minor amount of money from referrals on Amazon Affiliate marketing….doesn’t cost you a penny and helps keep me running. 🙂 )
